Kikuube man found dead 3 days after vanishing

Kikuube, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A man who went missing in Kikuube district has been found dead. The deceased, identified as Deo Kyaligonza, 57, was a resident of Tuhumure village, Butoole parish, in Kyangwali sub-county.

Kyaligonza reportedly went missing from his home on July 6, 2024, prompting area residents to launch a search for him in vain. Mark Muramira, the area LC1 Chairperson, told Uganda Radio Network (URN) in an interview that after the search proved fruitless, his office promptly notified Kikuube police, who joined the search efforts.

Deo Namanya, a relative, explained that Kyaligonza was last seen at home on July 6, 2024, in good health, and his sudden disappearance shocked family members and area residents. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, stated that Kyaligonza’s lifeless body was found on July 7, 2024, lying in a maize garden within the same village.

Hakiza noted that the body had bruises on the neck, indicating that Kyaligonza may have been strangled to death by his attackers before his body was dumped in the maize garden. Police picked up the body and conveyed it to the Kikuube Health Center IV mortuary for a postmortem examination before handing it over to relatives for burial arrangements.
