Kilembe Mines Golf Club reclaims Helmet Cup

Kasese, Uganda  | THE INDEPENDENT | Kilembe Mines Golf Club used home knowledge to reclaim the prestigious Helmet Cup on Saturday at the Par 73, 18 hole course in Kilembe. The host club beat their visitors Entebbe Club with a difference of 63 strokes, according to a statement from the club.

Kilembe in June lost the first leg at Entebbe by 62 strokes but went one better by winning by 1 stroke with a total nett score or 1439, while Entebbe Club totalled 1502.

The best 10 scores of each side determined the winner of this annual competition between the two historic clubs.

“We are delighted by reclaiming this Cup especially on our home turf,” Gad Musasizi, a Kilembe Mines member stated. “They gave us a good challenge and we are glad the cup has remained here.”

A total of 91 golfers from Kampala, Entebbe, Fort Portal, Kabale, Mbarara, Lira took part in this year’s edition.
Nathan Muganga(55-65) was the winner in this seniors category with 70 nett. Francis Tirwomwe was the winner of 66 plus with 58 nett.

The senior gross Men and Ladies was won by Peter Obita and Kate Muganga 81 and 106 gross.

Robinah Angom and Faith Namara won Ladies Group A with 77 and 65 nett respectively.

Joseph Tusiime, Philbert Bwambale, Mathias Okwir won A, B and C with scores of 69, 61 and 58 nett respectively.
Godfrey Kambale and Edrae Kagombe where the Men and Ladies Gross winners with 70 gross on count back and 82 gross each.

The tournament was sponsored by Uganda Breweries Limited, Agri Evolve, Stabex Petroleum, Hima Cement, Ronald Kwikiriza, Gadi Musasizi and Rubarika Safari Lodge.
