King Oyo rallies learners to embrace culture

Fort Portal, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The King of Tooro Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV has called on learners to embrace and value the Tooro culture.

Meeting learners from 13 schools in Fort Portal city on Thursday at his Palace, King Oyo asked the students to preserve the cultural norms of the kingdom for future generations.

The King’s interaction with the learners was one of the activities to celebrate the 27th coronation anniversary which will be held on Monday.

Tooro Kingdom Education Minister Prof Mukama Namara advised the students to observe the cultural values by living a purposeful and fulfilling life. Prof Namara also asked the learners to embrace kingdom activities.

Steven Kiyingi, the Tooro kingdom Prime Minster asked the students to acquire life skills to add to the formal education they have attained at school.

Some of the students expressed happiness with the interaction with the king.

Rebecca Karungi, a student at Nyakasura school said that the last time she was at the palace was when she was still young.

Brian Muhumuza, a student at King of Kings secondary school says that the moment that stood out for him was when he had a photo opportunity with the King.

William Mugisa says that it is a privilege to visit the Palace and have a chance to be close to the King.

The learners were later hosted to lunch by the King.
