Koboko, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Authorities in Koboko district have demanded a speedy probe into the fire that gutted a store and destroyed supplies worth millions of shillings on Saturday.
The fire reportedly resulted from a welding point in a nearby building. But reports indicate the store was under repair by Joint Medical Stores by the time the fire occurred.
Some of the items destroyed in the container include bales of mosquitoes nets, mattresses used at the quarantine centre, first aid kits, among other items.
Emmanuel Olabor, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Koboko district local government says they want details of what was contained in the store.
Peter Mokili, the Secretary for Social Services Koboko district local government said though essential medicines were not part of the items destroyed, they require a comprehensive investigation and report on the fire.
Mokili explained that some of the destroyed items were scheduled for disposal.
According to Michael Munguacel, the head of the Fire and Rescue Arua regional office, the officers were able to put out the fire though they couldn’t rescue any property.
