Luwero, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | St Jude Galikwoleka Catholic Church in Kasana-Luwero Diocese has been boosted with a donation of 380 iron sheets, to complete a job that started 10 years ago.
St Jude Galikwoleka Catholic Church was established 60 years ago as a sub parish in Kamira sub-county, Luwero district. The Church building could accommodate about 50 Christians at the time, but the numbers have since increased, yet the structure was also giving way, becoming a threat to the parishioners.
In 2014, Christians embarked on the construction of a new Church to accommodate over 2000 Christians. However, the construction has stalled due to lack of funds. The Christians only raised 58 out of a budget of 110 million Shillings, according to Emmanuel Mukaya, the head of the laity.
Mukaya added that recently they resolved to petition the Area Member of Parliament to come to the rescue.
On Saturday, Robert Ssekitoleeko, the Bamunanika County Member of Parliament donated 380 iron sheets needed to roof the Church to enable Christians to complete the construction.
Ssekitoleeko said that he was concerned about the long period that it had taken to complete the construction and decided to buy all the needed iron sheets to complete the roofing. But he added that he was overwhelmed with requests for building materials for Church and School projects.
On behalf of Kamira Parish which manages St Jude Galikwoleka sub parish, Reverend Father John Baptist Lokonyero said that the completion of the Church would greatly help in the Christians’ appeal for a Parish from Kasana Luwero Diocese.
Currently, there are over 10 Catholic churches that are under construction by Christians, priests and local leaders in Kasana –Luwero Diocese. There are over 200,000 Catholics spread in Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola districts that make up Kasana –Luwero Diocese.
