The Court of Appeal will on Tuesday deliver judgement in an election appeal filed by Lwengo woman Member of Parliament (MP) Cissy Namujju challenging Masaka High Court’s decision to nullify her election on grounds of lack of the requisite academic papers.
Martin Kizito Sserwanga, a concerned voter in Lwengo dragged Namujju to court saying she does not qualify to contest for the parliamentary seat as she lacks an A-level certificate or its equivalent.
Sserwanga contends that the documents submitted by Namujju to the Electoral Commission during her nomination were forged.
He stated that Namujju dropped out of school before completing primary education but forged both the O-level and A-level certificate to contest for the parliamentary seat.
It was on this basis that Justice Margaret Tibulya found Namujju guilty of forgery and uttering false documents, and directed the electoral commission to conduct fresh elections in Lwengo.
NRM’s Namujju defeated independent candidate Sarah Nkonge Muwonge and Democratic Party’s Rose Nantongo to secure the Lwengo district Woman MP Seat in the 2016 general elections.
