Maj Gen Henry Matsiko hands over chairmanship of the Implementation Committee for the Uganda National Military Museum to Maj Gen Moses Rwakitarate

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Commander in Chief Yoweri Museveni, has appointed Maj Gen Moses Rwakitarate, to head the committee establishing a museum for Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

Maj Gen Rwakitarate replaces Maj Gen Henry Matsiko who has been the first head of the Implementation Committee for the Uganda National Military Museum. UPDF’s Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, has said the military museum will tell the history of the country’s defence forces.

“The museum will not only tell the history of our country but also be a source of revenue for the UPDF in form of tourism,” Maj Gen Bakasumba said. UPDF has pledged maximum support to Maj Gen Rwakitarate and him that the country is expecting a good-quality museum that matches international standards.

Maj Gen Matsiko said there has been progress in the work, and expressed optimism that the military museum will exhibit the force’s history from colonial times, during independence, post-independence and the 40 years UPDF under NRM.

“This museum is being constructed in a strategic location in Katonga along the Masaka-Kampala Highway and this area is significant in Uganda’s military history due to its association with liberation battles,” Maj Gen Matsiko said.
