Kampala, Uganda | PATRICIA AKANKWATSA | Last evening was all smiles, joy and laughter at Freedom Square as Makerere University held a homecoming dinner for its alumni.
The Mak@100 Homecoming Dinner was organised jointly by anniversary secretariat and the current student Guild leadership. It presented an opportunity for the student body to involve the student community and extend an invitation to alumni to join the centenary celebrations.
Organised under the theme, “Through These Gates,” it celebrated the journey of all those who have gone through the gates of Makerere University. Makerere University will celebrate a hundred years of existence in October this year.
We thank each one of our alumni who made time to come rekindle their university days with us. We invite you to continue moving with us on this journey as we celebrate #MakerereAt100.

Makerere Council Chairperson Lorna Magara stressed that the dinner was an opportunity for all to celebrate memories, rekindle friendships and establish new networks.
“Makerere will always be our home, a place of new exciting opportunities and legacy creation,” she said.
“We are here today because of the works of the great men and women who shaped Makerere as we know it today.”
She added that as part of the centenary celebrations, five public lectures have been hosted already and delivered by the university’s gallant alumni.
The institution has organized a series of pre-events ahead of the centennial celebrations and the alumni homecoming dinner is one of those. The dinner celebration hosted students, stakeholders, former student leaders, alumni, the top University Management, the University community and other guests.
