Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | A Makerere University senior administrative officer who was recently seen in a video indecently assaulting a student from his office, has been charged before Buganda Road Court and remanded to Luzira prison on charges of attempted rape.
Edward Kisuze was arrested by police on April 13, 2018 after his victim recorded and uploaded a video on social network showing him attempting to have sexual intercourse with her within room 507 at the Makerere Senate building.
The student who said she had been sexually harassed made a statement at Police Station in which she said she was sexually harassed by a man in Room 507.
In the statement, the student said the man kissed her private parts forcefully and in order for her to get evidence; she took a selfie as there was no camera in the room. A photo of the selfie was widely shared on various media platforms.
Kisuze has pleaded not guilty to both attempted rape and an alternative charge of indecent assault.
Presiding Chief magistrate James Ereemye Mawanda then remanded him to Luzira prison until the May 10, 2018 for a ruling on his bail application.
Makerere University later suspended Kisuze. In a letter dated April 17, 2018, which was posted on the university’s Twitter page, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor William Bazeyo said Kisuze had been suspended from university service on half pay with immediate effect to allow a smooth investigation into allegations that he harassed the student at his office at Senate Building.
