Namisindwa, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Namisindwa District are currently holding a 25-year-old man known only as Pyusi on allegations of cutting and injuring his Kenyan counterpart for dancing with his girlfriend at a funeral.
Pyusi, a resident of Manyali village in Bukokho Parish, reportedly attacked Toney Kisebe, a 26-year-old resident of a neighboring town, during a funeral at approximately 10 PM on Monday.
According to a resident Vetti Wambewo, Pyusi had a dispute with Kisebe after seeing him dancing with his girlfriend. In the altercation, Pyusi allegedly used a pager to cut Kisebe four times on the head. Kisebe was subsequently rushed to a nearby clinic by area locals.
Following the attack, Pyusi returned home and reportedly began cutting his father, David Matufu, and damaging crops, including bananas and coffee. This outburst was reportedly triggered by his father’s reproach. John Wafula, the LC III chairperson of Bukokho Sub County, confirmed the incident, stating that Pyusi has been arrested and is currently being detained at the Bumbo police post.
He noted that the injured individuals are receiving treatment at St. Edward Clinic in Bumbo Town Council and cautioned against the use of drugs, which he suggested may have contributed to Pyusi’s actions. Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, stated that he would provide further comments after receiving more details from the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (OC CID) of Namisindwa.
