Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A 27 year old man Ashraf Kiiza who was filmed in a CCTV video that went viral as he apparently attacked and injured a businessman who was counting money in Nateete has been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of attempted murder and attempted aggravated robbery.

Kiiza a Machine Operator at Bashir Milling Investment, resident of Kirinyabigo Zone of Rubaga in Kampala on Tuesday afternoon appeared before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Adams Byarugaba who read him the charges, both capital in nature.

The Court has heard that on May 13th 2024 at Nateete Mirembe Zone Rubaga Division in Kampala District, Kiiza attempted to rob one Sam Turyamuhaki of 2 million shillings. Further, that immediately or before or after the time of the said attempted aggravated robbery, he used a panga which is a deadly weapon and a hammer on Turyamuhaki.

Prosecution further contends that Kiiza attempted to cause the death of Turyamuhaki.

The evidence before Court indicates that Turyamuhaki had gone to Bashir Milling Investment to pick money for farmers. That while in the office with Bashir Ssekiwunga the Director and Oliver Natasha the Cashier, he was given 8 million shillings and as he was counting the money, the accused person Kiiza allegedly entered the office carrying a white sack and a hammer which he removed from the sack. Records show that Kiiza then instructed Turyamuhaki to put down the money he was counting and he (Kizza) started using his leg to remove the money and started cutting the victim using panga and hammer on the head.

The attacker later ran away leaving Turyamuhaki hospitalized after Ssekiwunga reported a case of attempted murder.
