Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A man has stabbed his wife to death in a domestic fight.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire has identified the suspect as Saadi Maganda, a resident of Kanyanya zone in Ndejje parish, Makindye Ssabagabo, Wakiso district.
Maganda on Friday killed his wife Faridah Aliba, 20 years, following a domestic altercation. It is alleged that during the fight, Maganda stabbed Aliba in the neck, killing her instantly.
The suspect later handed himself to local authorities. Owoyesigyire said that the police responded swiftly, and rescued him from the mob.
“We got the call from the Defence secretary and police responded, securing the crime scene and recovering critical evidence, including a blood-stained knife and a stone,” Owoyesigyire said.
The murder follows another similar incident last month, where 19-year-old Sharon Rukundo, who was beheaded by her husband only identified as Kude.
The suspect was subsequently lynched by a mob in Juuko Zone, Katwe-Makindye Division.
The annual Crime Report of 2023 indicated that Police recorded 14,691 cases of domestic violence, which was a 17% decrease compared to 17,681 cases reported in 2022.
The increasing cases of domestic violence were mainly attributed to disputes over family properties, failure to provide for the family, drug and alcohol abuse, and cases of infidelity among the couple.
