Amuria , Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Democratic Party- DP Presidential Candidate, Nobert Mao on Monday combed villages in Teso to canvass for votes.
In his campaign trail in Amuria and Katakwi districts, Mao canvassed for votes for DP flag bearers in Abiya and Kuju Sub Counties. Mao campaigned for Moses Ochole, the DP flag bearer for LCV Councilor in Abiya center, Opau- Iyeng and Airiamet trading centers where he addressed a handful of residents found in the trading centers.
Mao later continued with his campaign trail to Katakwi, through Amuria town via Asamuk and Wera trading centers without any stopover or interruption from the Police. He later campaigned for Stanley Opus, the DP flag bearer for Toroma County and Gerald Malinga, for Ngariam County.
According to Mao, his approach is to strengthen structures at lower levels to enable the party grow to cause change. He asked the local communities in Amuria to embrace change for a better Uganda.
Simon Ebelu, the LCI caretaker in Airiamet Trading Center said that it was his first time to see a presidential convoy driving through villages to seek votes.
Ebelu told Mao that residents in the area are facing several challenges that include poor roads, which has hindered them to transport their produce to the market or rush mothers and children to the health facilities.
“Am sure that when you go through as President of this country, you will remember these roads that your convoy is struggling to pass through. Had it rained here before, you people wouldn’t manage to drive through this road”, he said.
Harriet Oumo, a shop attendant at Opau- Iyeng trading center said that Mao’s presence in the village shows that he cares for the local person.
Mao started his campaigns in Teso on Sunday from Bukedea and Kumi but was unable to campaign in Soroti as planned after arriving late.
Democratic Party has fielded six candidates including Faith Namusana for Ngora Woman MP, Charles Ilakut for Kumi County, Thomas Ocan for Kalaki County, Simon Peter Ogulo for Usuk County, Stanley Opus for Toroma County and Gerald Malinga for Ngariam County.
