Uganda’s annual headline inflation has increased to 5.4% from 5.1% registered in April 2016.

The main driver for the Annual Headline inflation was the annual core inflation which registered at 7% in May as compared to 6.4% recorded last month.

However the increase is as a result of a rise in “other goods” inflation from 6.7% to 7.4% and also annual services inflation increased from 5.9% to 6.5%.

Chris Mukiza, Director Macro statistics briefed the press today at Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) on details of the Consumer Price Index for May 2016.

Arua recorded the highest annual inflation at 7.3% as a result of high annual inflation for clothing and footwear and restaurants and hotels.  Masaka is at 6.6 percent, Kampala high and low income at 6.1 and 6.4 respectively, Jinja 5.8%, Mbarara 5.7% and finally Mbale that recorded lowest inflation of 2.1%.
