The Independent Uganda: You get the Truth we Pay the Price
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | MTN Uganda, through its MTN Foundation, has donated a fully equipped computer lab worth Shs 65 million to St. Catherine Girls Secondary School in Kazo District. This initiative, part of MTN’s Digital Access Program, includes 10 computers, a year of free internet, and backup power systems, aimed at improving digital learning and empowering young women.
Andrew Tusubira, Regional Commercial Head – West at MTN Uganda, emphasized that this donation supports MTN’s Ambition 2025 Strategy to drive digital transformation and create a more connected Uganda. “This computer lab will provide students with essential digital skills, equipping them to engage in the digital economy,” he said.
The initiative also aligns with Uganda’s Vision 2040, National Development Plan III, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which focus on inclusiveness and economic empowerment. Uganda faces challenges in youth unemployment, especially among women, whose unemployment rate stands at 16.3%, compared to the national average of 11.7%.
Sr. Assumpta Mayar, the head teacher, thanked MTN for its support. St. Catherine Girls, with over 500 students, is the second school to benefit from the Digital Access Program this year. Additional schools, including St. Joseph’s Nyenga Seminary, Revival Girls, and St. John’s Secondary School, will also receive support.
