Mukono mobile money hacker arrested

Enanga announced arrest

Mukono, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Directorate of Crime Intelligence (DCI), and Mukono Central Police Station, have arrested Sabiiti Kaporonyo, a 48-year-old hacker.

Kaporonyo was reported by several mobile money dealers and civilians for unauthorized withdrawals from their SIM cards for more than a month.

Crime Intelligence and Mukono Police authorities began tracking the withdrawal points, noting that the culprit consistently ended up in Namugongo after each transaction.

It is believed that Kaporonyo illegally withdrew over 50 million Shillings by hacking into the mobile money systems of agents in Mukono, Jinja, Misindye, Kiira division, Kinoni, and Nagalama.

“He had also allegedly customized his car registration number plates, believing his car movements would not be detected. An immediate search led to the recovery of four Airtel lines and a hacking machine,” DCI operatives said in a report about Kaporonyo’s arrest.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, identified Kaporonyo’s car, a white Toyota Harrier with a fake number plate (UBD 612P), which has been impounded.

“As the Joint Security Agencies, we continue to locate and fight these kinds of criminals who steal and hurt innocent business persons. We shall investigate, expose, and disrupt them,” Enanga said.

Meanwhile, the Kira Road Police Division is searching for a man suspected of murdering his female partner at Silent Kireka Guest House in Kireka B zone, Kira Municipality, around 7 pm last Saturday.

The suspect, who booked the room under the name Mike Bilinengo and paid 5,000 shillings, left before the discovery of the crime.

“At around 11 pm, when the lodge attendant went to check the room, she found it open, and switched on the lights, only to find a brown woman, lying dead facing down, across the bed, with blood oozing from her nose,” Kira road detectives said.

Upon realizing the murder, the suspect fled the scene. Detectives found the deceased’s handbag empty, and the body was transported to Mulago Morgue after the crime scene was thoroughly documented.
