In a surprise move, President Museveni reappointed the Kyabazinga of Busoga William Nadioe Gabula IV as a special envoy in his office.
Gabula was dropped from the list of new ambassadors weeks after he was appointed by the President. The initial appointment drew anger from Basoga, the Kyabazinga’s subjects saying the move undermined their leader. Some of the subjects said that the appointment would make the Kyabazinga unable to mediate conflicts between his subjects who with varying political views. The criticism also stemmed from the fact that the appointment violates the constitution. Museveni defended the appointment saying he invested in Gabulas education and therefore urged the youthful Gabula to contribute to his country’s development.
