Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Tabula Lujja, the prime suspect in the murder of Ndiga Clan head Lwomwa Bbosa Kakeedo, has recorded an extra-judicial statement before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court.
Bbossa was gunned down near his home in Lungujja a Kampala suburb on February 24, 2024 by assailants moving on Boda Boda.
Detectives attached to the Crime Intelligence of Police arrested Lujja on Monday from Kimelika-Namulonge, Busikuma. He had been elusive for about six months.
Tabula was on Friday brought to Buganda Road Court to record an extra judicial statement amidst tight security.
According to the evidence Act, an extrajudicial Statement is an utterance made out-of-court which can be either written or oral including a confession, admission, or other statement against the interest of the maker.
Acording to sources, Lujja cited three major reasons for the murder: revenge for the 1989 killing of his father, a one Israel, allegedly by Lwomwa and his family; the sale of Ndiga clan land at Mbale in Mpigi, and desecration of his ancestor’s grave by building a toilet on it; and Lwomwa’s opposition to his bid for ownership of the Namulonge land.
Sources have also informed Our Reporter that Lujja, who claims to be the rightful Lwomwa, said that he orchestrated the murder to obtain his title. Further, that he also revealed that four out of the five people arrested and charged with the crime are innocent, except for his nephew, Noah Lujja.
The others are: Harriet Nakiguli, a resident of Nkere Corner Zone, Kawempe Division in Kampala District, Joseph Nakabale, a carpenter residing in Gala, Mpigi Town Council, Ezra Mayanja, a carpenter residing in Kiganda Zone, Kawempe and Milly Naluwenda, the Secretary to the Kisekwa Cultural Court of Buganda, residing in Kitunzi Zone 7, Rubaga Division, and Kampala District.
The group has been appearing before the Mwanga Two Magistrates Court as police hunted for Tabula.
Additionally, sources have indicated that Lujja clarified that Milly Naluwenda, the Kisekwa court secretary, was only involved in informing him of Lwomwa’s murder and was not part of the plot.
The suspect further denied any involvement in human sacrifice, explaining that the 17 skulls recovered from his shrine in Mpigi were obtained for ancestral purposes.
Sources have also indicated that Ronald Kayizzi the Chief Magistrate, warned Lujja that his statements would be used against him during trial.
It is not yet clear as to when Tabula will be arraigned in Court.
Before Bbossa’s death, there had been a longstanding dispute within the Kingdom, dating back over 480 years, leading to the Buganda Cultural Court, known as Court Yakisekwa, directing Bbossa to step down from leadership due to lineage discrepancies among the clan’s true descendants.
