New Priests, Deacons asked to help others

The ordination and commissioning of twelve deacons and priests at the All saints cathedral

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Retired Bishop of Lango Diocese, Reverend Captain Charles John Odurkami has asked the newly ordained priests and deacons to get rid of jealous and help others to succeed in life.

He made the call during the ordination of 12 deacons and priests at all Saints Church in Nakasero. He jointly presided over the ordination with his Grace Stanley Ntagali, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.

Ordurkami said many leaders including in government and Church have been infiltrated by the devil to the extent that they no longer want to help their juniors to learn such that they can take over when they retire.

He noted that even in the church, there are many senior leaders whose hearts have been penetrated by evil to the extent that they assign a lot of duties to their juniors like Deacons and Priests.

“If you can’t manage shunning jealous and its causes, even right now, you can tell us that you need time to reexamine yourself before being ordained”, he said.

The Archbishop asked the newly ordained priests and deacons not to go back to their previous ungodly activities if any, saying they have now gone for a lifetime commitment.

He warned that if the newly ordained clergy fail to denounce their past life, they will keep complaining and asking for transfers to greener environments and end up failing to transform Christians.

“If you beacon on money, that is not yours, we will keep reading many more negative stories about you, because you will have failed your core objectives and goals as a church leader, ” the Bishop stressed.

Speaking at the Same Function, his Grace Stanley Ntagali implored the new deacons and priests to remain loyal to the Church as they promised while taking oaths during their ordination .

At the function, the Archbishop announced the transfer of Reverend Canon Jasper Tumuhimbise from St Steven’s Church, Kitara to the Central Archdeaconry, where he will serve as the Provost. He will be assisted by Reverend Canon Dr Rebecca Nyengenye from Uganda Christian University as Chaplain.

Accordingly, Reverend Michael Mukhwana has been taken from All Saints Cathedral-Kampala to St Andrews Church in Bukoto and will also be in charge of the Eastern Archdeaconry.

Ntagali said that the Parish Council is currently working on the appointment of Geoffrey Byarugaba who is currently in Ankole and will inform Christians when its done.
