Kampala, Uganda | Julius Businge | Nile Breweries Limited has started a COVID-19 vaccination drive for staff and their spouses in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, it said on April 13 in a notice.
The company said, the move would promote safety and health of the targeted group amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The team of medical personnel from the ministry health spearheaded by Buikwe district team, will this week administer the vaccine to interested staff at the three sites of the company – Kampala, Jinja & Mbarara in an effort to make the vaccine more accessible to staff.
This is in response to government’s call to Ugandans to take coronavirus jabs to tame its likely impact.
“We believe in safety first, this is why since the outbreak of the pandemic we have been working closely with government to support any interventions and are committed to promote the health and safety of not only our staff, but also customers and Ugandans at large,” said Onapito Ekomoloit, the legal and corporate affairs director at NBL.
The Ministry of Health started the vaccination process for Ugandans at high risk on March 10 with the vaccine choice of Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine availed to Uganda under the COVAX facility and the Government of India.
Early this month, it opened up the vaccination exercise to all persons aged 50 years and above and those aged 18 to 50.
A total of 180, 969 people had been vaccinated by close of business on April 10, according to the Ministry of Health data.
The cumulative number of positive cases were 41, 174, and 40, 779 were recorded as recoveries, while 337 people had died of the virus.
