Obongi nominations held under tight security.

Anti-riot and traffic police blocked the route to the EC offices in Obongi.

Obongi, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT |   There is heavy and tight security deployment in Obongi town as nominations take place at the Electoral Commission offices.

When Oongi MP Kapsi Fugaroo who went to be nominate at 10:00am, he was met by anti-riot police who had cordoned off the EC offices.

However, the Obongi District Police Commander Abel Ruganza said the deployment was meant to ensure there is no procession as their intelligence sources had intimated. Ruganza cautioned the people of Obongi especially the youth against being used by politicians for their selfish interests, adding that the rumours of ‘war’ between security and the opposition FDC supporters are misleading allegation.

While congratulating Fungaroo upon his nomination, the Obongi Returning Officer the Gilbert Meru  warned him against putting the lives of his supporters and the people of Obongi at risk by organizing rallies.

Seven candidates are expected to be nominated in Obongi, two directly elected MPs Fungaroo Hassan of FDC with Dr. George Bhoka of NRM and Five for Woman MP.
