Ona, in our hearts, your name will stay

Eulogy for Onapito Ekomoloit (Ona)

From Asalatap’s plains, where dawn breaks bright,
You rose with wisdom, a guiding light.
St Peter’s halls still sing your name,
In every corner, you staked your claim.

Through Makerere’s gates, with knowledge keen,
You walked with purpose, a vision seen.
With pen and voice, you carved your way,
A journalist’s truth, come what may.

In Parliament’s halls, your voice rang clear,
For justice and truth, you had no fear.
A servant of many, you stood for the weak,
Champion of the silent, the humble, the meek.

From State House grounds, with power at hand,
You served the nation, a guiding stand.
Yet never too far from those in need,
Your heart was filled with a noble creed.

In corporate realms, where brands are made,
You turned the tide, the trail you laid.
But it was not just wealth or fame,
You gave your all, to every name.

For students bright, yet held by fate,
You opened doors, unlocked the gate.
With generosity, you paved the way,
For minds to grow, for hope to stay.

In boardrooms vast, your wisdom flowed,
A trusted guide where business sowed.
Yet never did you lose your touch,
For all your wealth, you gave so much.

A gentle soul with courage strong,
You knew the right, shunned the wrong.
Through triumphs high, through trials deep,
Your spirit woke, while others sleep.

Now Ona, rest where peace is found,
Your legacy lives in sacred ground.
Though death may call, it cannot bind,
The love you gave, the truth you mined.

The corporate world, the press, the state,
All bear your mark, your noble weight.
But more than these, your heart remains,
In lives you touched, in love’s domains.

So let us weep, yet let us sing,
For you, dear Ona, the angels bring.
In every tear, there’s triumph too,
For all the good you fought to do.

Farewell, dear friend, your race is run,
Your work on earth has now been done.
But in our hearts, your name will stay,
A beacon bright to light our way.
