Kabale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kabale District authorities have praised the outgoing Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Andrew Ronald Bakak, for his strong stance against corruption during his tenure. Bakak, who was appointed Kabale Deputy RDC in August 2022, officially handed over his office today following his transfer to Soroti District in the same position. He has been succeeded by the former Mbarara City Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Christopher Aine.
During the handover ceremony at the Kabale District Headquarters on Monday, the Executive Secretary for Marketing and Production, Ronald Bagamuhunda, lauded Bakak for his fearless leadership in the fight against corruption in the district. Bagamuhunda highlighted Bakak’s efforts in arresting several corrupt officials and recovering hundreds of millions of shillings, particularly in the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.
Records show that during Bakak’s two-year term as Deputy RDC in Kabale, up to 301 million Shillings were recovered from corrupt officials involved in the PDM alone. Bagamuhunda, who also serves as the Kabale District LC.5 Youth Councilor, expressed gratitude to Bakak for effectively coordinating operations against substandard work by contractors handling government projects such as roads, hospitals, school buildings, and water projects.
Kabale District LC.5 Chairman, Nelson Nshangabasheija, described Bakak as a hardworking Presidential representative who avoided sitting in the office, instead spending his time traveling around the district, listening to people’s concerns, and monitoring government project implementation.
In his remarks, Kabale RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma acknowledged Bakak’s significant contributions to stabilizing the district, which was still recovering from the intense political conflicts of the 2021 general elections.
In his farewell speech, Mr. Ronald Bakak expressed his gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for appointing him as Deputy RDC in Kabale for the past two years. He pledged to maintain his work ethic in his new role in Soroti District. Bakak handed over the office key, office stamp, case files, and a document listing all office items.
The incoming Deputy RDC, Christopher Aine, stated that he is already familiar with Bakak’s legacy and intends to continue from where his predecessor left off. “I won’t promise a lot to the people of Kabale, but I pledge to follow his footsteps and execute all my duties as mandated by the law, as well as follow guidance from my superiors and the appointing authority,” Aine said.
