Parliament demands comprehensive report on school reopening

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Parliament has directed the Minister of Education and Sports to bring a comprehensive report before the house on how the government plans to reopen schools.

This is after the Kalungu West MP, Joseph Ssewungu who was raising a matter of national importance said that for two years, learners in Kindergarten, Primary 1 to 3 and students from Senior One, Two and Five have never attended classes.

Ssewungu says that some schools are dilapidated due to lack of activity while some learners especially girls have been married off.

The Busia Municipality MP Geoffrey Macho noted that 80 percent of the children at the border districts are studying from neighbouring countries. He wants the government to inform parliament on the plans they have.

Deputy Speaker Anita Among directed the Ministry of Education to bring a comprehensive report on school reopening.

The Minister of State for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo informed MPs that the government is still vaccinating teachers and has promised to bring a comprehensive report on the matter within one week.
