The Independent Uganda: You get the Truth we Pay the Price
Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | Parliament unanimously passed a motion to pay tribute to the team that represented Uganda at the just concluded commonwealth games held in Australia.
Uganda finished 15th of the 71 member Countries after bagging a total of six medals including three gold in the 11 disciplines that the country participated in.
Track and field athletes Joshua Cheptegei Kiprui scooped two gold medals, Stella Chesang one gold medal, Solomon Mutai (silver) and Mercyline Chelangat (bronze). While Boxer Juma Miiro scooped a bronze medal too.
Ajuri Mp Dennis Hamson Obua moved the motion to pay tribute to the medalists during a special session presided over by the Deputy Speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanya.
For his part, the State Minister for Sports Charles Bakabulindi said government is going to use part of the Namboole stadium land to construct a world class swimming pool.
He also noted that he, along with a selected group of other Members of Parliament will next week pay a visit to the High Altitude center currently under construction in Kapchorwa to assess its progress.
The rest of the members of the house who took to the floor said the athletes are a source of pride to the entire country after flying the flag high and that more should be done to brainstorm on what government can do to offer the athletes better facilities to foster their talents.
