‘Quite amiable’
Fred Ruhindi who succeeded Nyombi as Attorney General in 2015 says credit must be given to his predecessor as a hardworking person, with a passion for work and he also describes him as “quite amiable”. He says he knew Nyombi much earlier than when he deputised him. Ruhindi was deputy attorney general from 2011 to 2015.
“When I joined ministry of justice as a state attorney in 1981, he was there as a state attorney in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions,” Ruhindi tells The Independent. Then they had little interaction because Ruhindi worked in the First Parliamentary Counsel under the ministry of justice.
“We interacted a bit closely when we travelled together on a study tour to Sweden in the mid-1990s. We had gone to do a one month course in comparative law,” he says. At the time, Nyombihad moved on to the Inspectorate of Government.
He was a brother to Rev. John Senyonyi, the Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, Mukono and Ambassador Henry Mayega. Nyombi is reported to have succumbed to heart failure at a clinic in Kampala.
