Kigezi High School celebrates 100 years

Kabale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kigezi High School in Kabale district on Saturday celebrated 100 years of existence in the education sector.

Located at Rugarama Hill in Northern Division, Kabale Municipality, the school was established in 1922 by Protestant Missionaries with an aim of instilling Christianity in society as well as academic values among the learners. It became a Junior Secondary School in 1946 and a Senior Secondary School in 1965.

The School boasts of such prominent names as former Premiers Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and Amama Mbabazi; and Justice George Kanyeihamba. Makerere University Chancellors, Dr. Ezra Suruma, Professor, George Mondo Kagonyera. Professor Augustus Nuwagaba, Dr. Kiiza Besigye, Major Generals, Jim Muhwezi , Henry Matsiko Dr. Abed Bwanika, Munini Mulera among others in politics, business, civil service, and religion.


While preaching during celebrations in Kabale district, Rt.Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese who represented Samuel Stephen Kaziimba, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda asked the school administration to teach students on how to deal with the current peer pressure through social media that targets to degenerate morals.

In a speech read for him by Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, Vice President, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who was the chief guest called for discipline among students in form of refraining from evil acts of alcoholism, smoking and sexual promiscuity among others if they are to have a fruitful future.

Museveni also pledged 100 million towards the construction of a multipurpose structure to mark 100 years. The structure needs four billion shillings.
