Kayunga, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has rallied residents of Kayunga to vote for the National Resistance Movement candidate Andrew Muwonge, for the LCV chairperson seat.
Robinah Nabbanja joined a team from the NRM Secretariat headed by the Director of Mobilization, Rose Mary Seninde to canvass support for the party flag bearer.
At Galiraya sub county, Nabbanja promised residents that a road will be constructed to ease transport. Her pledge followed concerns raised by the residents who said that they were displaced and the road washed away by the rising water levels of Lake Victoria.
Nabbanja also castigated the Woman MP Kayunga, Ida Nantaba for supporting an independent candidate Majid Nyanzi. She said that Nantaba is a good leader who should back the NRM party candidate since she is a member of the party.
Last month, Nantaba publically declared her support for Nyanzi and accompanied him for the nomination exercise. Nantaba said that the constitution grants her the right to support a candidate of her choice.
The campaigns are centered around resolving the challenges that have characterized Kayunga over the years. One of the key issues is the decade-long fight between the NRM district chairperson Moses Karangwa and Nantaba.
The other candidates in the race are Harriet Nakwede of the National Unity Platform-NUP, Anthony Waddimba from the Democratic Party-DP, and independent candidates; Boniface Bandikubi, Majid Nyanzi, and Jamil Kamoga.
The LCV seat fell vacant following the death of Muhammad Ffeffeka Sserubogo who died a month after occupying the office.
