Patrick Oboi Amuriat laying the wreath on the grave

Dokolo, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT | The Forum for Democratic Party presidential candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat cancelled his campaigns in Dokolo on Friday to allow for the peaceful burial of Margret Alyek Okello, the sister to the FDC Northern Uganda Vice Chairperson, John Baptist Okello Okello.

Instead of holding his campaign, Oboa opted to attend the burial where he briefly addressed the mourners before leaving for Amolatar.

In his speech, Amuriat explained his relationship with the Okello family, which explained his decision to cancel his campaign.

He also used the opportunity to apologize to the mourners and the people of Dokolo as a whole for appearing at the burial barefoot, saying it’s his way of defiance.

“I came to this funeral and I would like you to forgive me for walking without shoes, I am very lucky that they never took my legs, the legs are still here so I can still walk,” he said.

Adding that, “Today I walk without shoes as a demonstration of support of the oppressed and marginalized Ugandans.”

Cecilia Ogwal, the Dokolo Woman MP appreciated Oboi for upholding his promise and asked him to forgive his offenders and preach peace.

The late Margret Alyek Okello worked as a secretary at Makerere University until 2010 when she retired. Alyek, who is survived by 5 children and 15 grandchildren, was laid to rest at Acengryeng cell in Dokolo Town council.
