Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police have blocked the highly anticipated Democratic Party-DP reunion meeting at Jinja rugby grounds. Heavily armed police officers backed with armored vehicles deployed at the rugby grounds by 7:00 am this morning to stop DP officials for erecting tents and a public address system for the event.

Police also stopped the organisers from carrying out a drive to mobilise the public for the event. The officers intercepted DP President, Norbert Mao who insisted that they had notified police about the reunion meeting.

Walter Lubega, the Chairperson of the DP Reunion Organizing Committee, says they secured police permission to traverse different parts of Busoga region for two weeks to mobilize for the meeting.

Diana Nandawula, the Kiira Region Police Spokesperson told URN that the organizers didn’t follow the guidelines as stipulated in the public order management, which requires them to seek clearance from the Inspector General of Police for such meetings.

DP has held similar meetings in Masaka, Northern and West Nile Regions.
