Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT & URN | Police fire brigade has this evening put out a fire, that engulfed Corby dormitory at Gayaza High as students were away for their evening lessons.
According to Police, the fire was contained though all the property in Corby dormitory got burnt. Police confirmed no one was injured and that they have started investigating the cause of the fire.
Although a number of people from within the community tried to put out the fire, the school authorities kept the gate closed.
According to school neighbours a police brigade vehicle was seen accessing the place.
“People wanted to get in to help, but they were not allowed,” says one the people who had rushed to the school.
Following the fire outbreak, several parents camped at the school to rescue their children, but we’re denied access.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga says that the police fire brigade contained the fire.
“The fire was contained though property and the dormitory got burnt.
All the students and the rest of the dormitories are safe. The cause of the fire is being investigated.” Enanga said
