Trump stunned America and the world Wednesday, riding a wave of populist resentment to defeat Hillary Clinton in the race to become the 45th president of the United States.
The Republican mogul defeated his Democratic rival, plunging global markets into turmoil and casting the long-standing global political order, which hinges on Washington’s leadership, into doubt.
Trump was soon to address his jubilant supporters at a victory party in Manhattan, his hometown.

His victory in the midwestern state, with its 10 electoral votes, put him at the doorstep of the 270 needed to win the White House.

The following is a running tally of states claimed by presidential hopefuls Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump on Tuesday in their race for the White House, according to network projections.
Candidates are racing to hit the magic number of 270 electoral votes, an absolute majority of the 538 members of the electoral college, with the number from each state based on its population size.
A state has one elector for each of its members of the House of Representatives, and one for each of the state’s two senators.
The tally has switched back and forth several times over the course of Election Night, with Trump now leading after a big win in Florida.
Several states were still too close to call including Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — all vital to Clinton’s chances.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index plummeted 5.5 percent, or 949.36 points, to 16,222.02 in afternoon trading.

A Chinese company whose name sounds like “Trump wins big” saw its stock surge Wednesday as the Republican candidate’s odds improved in the US presidential poll.
Shares in Shenzhen-listed Wisesoft, a computer software company whose Chinese name “chuan da zhi sheng” is a homophone for “Trump wins big”, rose 4.6 percent by the noon break, even as the wider market fell.

Voters in California on Tuesday approved the recreational use of marijuana in the nation’s most populous state, officials said.
Citing partial results, the Secretary of State’s office said the measure had been approved by more than 55 percent of voters — a major victory for the legalization movement.
That means California joins Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, Washington state and Washington, DC in allowing the use of recreational cannabis for adults.
Several other states on Tuesday were voting on whether to approve medical marijuana use.
