Roofings latest tree planting move

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Roofings Group is championing the planting of 2,000,000 trees in Kampala Industrial Business Park, Namanve, it said on May 31. In collaboration with Uganda Investment Authority, Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, and National Environment Management Authority the initiative aims to mitigate the environmental impact of the industries located in the business park. The launch event took place at Roofings Rolling Mills in Namanve. The Director General of the Uganda Investment Authority, Robert Mukiza said, “We are honored to witness sustainable industrialization in Kampala Industrial Business Park with Roofings as the pioneer.”

The Executive Director, NEMA, Barirega Akankwasah said, “NEMA has been waiting for such a day to conceptualize the initiative and pledged total support to bring it to life.”

The Chairman, Roofings Group, Sikander Lalani said, “Roofings took a bold step to set up in the park 20 years ago. As we launch tree planting, Roofings has a resolute team for the regreening agenda which gives out free tree seedlings under the forever forestry initiative.”

Evelyn Anite, the minister of state for investment said, “Such initiatives foster a culture of corporate responsibility.”
