Rugby clubs clash over Elgon Cup party

Once again the Elgon Cup is upon us; this Saturday Uganda’s rugby Cranes host Kenya in a crunch tie in Kampala. However there seems to be a hitch.

While the official game venue is Legends sports club, at least as per communication so far, the rival side at Kyadondo has organised what they have called a ‘kasiki’ on Martyrs’ Day, and an after party on match day.

Legends sports club management is not having any of it. They have voiced their concerns that Kyadondo management is raining on their parade!

Additionally,  there have also been some glitches as several media houses have reported that the game is at Kyadondo rugby club!

Legends boss Dan Kaggwa aka Danny is reported to have handsomely secured the game from yours truly, Uganda Rugby Union, and expects to cash in on game day, at the entrance, together with nyama kyoma and drinks as hodes of party lovers are expected to attend.

Legends has a reputation for high levels of organisation, sanitation, service, and eye candy; one does not have to shuffle to and from the counter to pick a drink. They have waitresses at hand to tend to customers.

Kyadondo on the other hand has nothing much to write home about save for the off-the-hook music and pork; party goers love it to death nonetheless. Girls will queue to use the not-so-clean restrooms; while guys will opt for the fringes of the pitch at the back, but the party is crazy!

Legends meanwhile might be in for a shock of their lives! Word has it that the pitch is in bad condition, and the Kenyans, who are out to avenge their loss last year, are known to love Kyadondo rugby club.

Head of coaches Yayiro Kasasa was reportedly visibly shocked to learn that the pitch was not up to standard, while the one across is in perfect condition.

On Wednesday Kenya rugby officials will tour that pitch and what might come out of that is anyone’s guess. We are reliably informed they have voiced concerns over the state of the pitch after scouts sent them photos of it.

Whatever happens, it is going to be a party, at least for the fans. The ‘Migingo’ affair has always been an event to relish.
