Full Time
Zimbabwe 27  Uganda 34

Rugby Cranes tamed the Zimbabwe Sables in the Africa Cup Division 1A on Saturday to keep alive their hopes of staying in the elite group.

Uganda’s victory at the Police Rugby grounds on Saturday left Zimbabawe face to face with relegation from the Africa Cup Division 1A and from the qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup finals for the first time since 1980. Zimbabwe will as a result be demoted into Africa Cup Group 1B.

A hat-trick of tries by Syrus Watum, plus two conversions and a penalty were the highlights of the game. Robert Masendi and Thomas Kalyango added a try each.

Zimbabwe got their points from tries by Tangai Nemadire, Lungile Tshuma and Stephen Hunduza. Lenience Tarembwa had two penalties and three conversions.

The Zimbabweans face defending champions Namibia on August 6 while Uganda takes on Kenya.

The competition has witnessed some stunning results, not least Kenya humiliating Zimbabwe  61-15 earlier while we lost to Namibia at home 40-31. Namibia last weekend embarrassed a resurgent Kenya with a 56-21 scoreline.

Uganda now has one win and a loss, Nambia two wins, Zimbabwe two defeats and Kenya one win, one loss.
