Jinja High Court Judge Eva Luswata has granted bail to Rwenzururu Prime Minister Thembo Kitsumbire.
According to his Lawyer Samuel Muyizzi, the premier was ordered to sign a court cash bond of sh75 million and his sureties were also bonded at sh100 million. He is now on his way to Kampala.
Kitsumbire’s other bail conditions are similar to those court set for King Charles Wesely Mumbere last month, among which are the restricted movements to districts forming the Kasese region.
The Rwenzururu Premier has been on remand at Luzira Prison since December last year on several charges of murder, terrorism and treason among others, all related to the March and November 2016 incidents in Kasese district where over 100 lives were lost.
While releasing Kitsumbire on bail, Justice Luswata considered his advanced age of 62 , illness of hypertesion, ulcers and prostate related problems which can not be handled in prison and the fact he has two permanent residencies in Wakiso District and Kasese Municipality.
He was arraigned before the Jinja magistrate’s court alongside his King Mumbere and over 170 royal guards, where he has been ordered to continue reporting once a month, for the mention of his case and extension of bail.
