Moroto, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Sanity gradually returns to Rupa Sub County in Moroto district following the deployment of Joint Security Forces.
The community, especially in the areas of Nakiloro, had recorded a spate of attacks by warriors who are believed to have come from the areas surrounding Mt Moroto. The armed warriors laid ambushes, abducted people, and stole livestock from residents.
However, in the last week, the Joint Security Forces deployed along the Rupa -Nakiloro road and conducted mobile patrols to ensure the safety of the community and all road users.
Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson said that community policing and the subsequent arrest of two notorious warriors helped them bring sanity to the affected areas.
Longole noted that the two suspects and the others who are on the run have been terrorizing road users and communities surrounding Rupa and Nakiloro. But Longole says that the Road is now safe for road users and also urged traders who had suspended business to resume their work.
He urged the communities to be vigilant and report to the security forces in case they encounter warriors who are still at large. Longole reiterated that the security forces were still monitoring the situation and tracking down the warriors who took off during the operations.
Patricia Angella, a businesswoman in Nakiloro Trading Centre said that the insecurity had frustrated their businesses forcing them to close as early as 5 pm for fear of being attacked by the armed warriors. She says that now they can operate up to 7 pm.
Angella appealed to the security forces to stay in the area until the situation got back to normal.
