Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Members of Parliament from Serere district have asked government to pay primary teachers who have gone eight months without pay.
Kasilo County MP Elijah Okupa on Thursday told Parliament about a meeting they held as leaders last regarding the salary complaints from the teachers.
Okupa said that 256 teachers have worked more than two years in primary schools without receiving pay despite being issued with pay slips.
However, the Education and Public Service ministries fault the District Chief Administration Officer for the delays.
David Karubanga, the State Minister for Public Service says that they have decentralized the payment of teachers in the district and all complaints regarding payment of teachers should be directed to the CAO.
State Minister of Finance in- charge of Planning David Bahati said that a team from his ministry will go to Serere district to verify the reports.
He, however, said that there has been a problem on payroll and they are trying to sort it out.
