Seven arrested over multiple robberies in the Albertine

Deo Obura, the Albertine Region police Commander-RPC confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspected armed robbers to URN.

Kagadi, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  Albertain police are holding seven suspects for their alleged involvement in armed robberies. The suspects were picked up from various places in Kagadi and Kakumiro districts.

They are said to be part of the thugs who have been terrorizing mobile money agents in the two districts.

Deo Obura, the Albertine regional Police Commander-RPC told Uganda Radio Network on Monday that the suspects whose particulars have been withheld by police for fear of jeopardizing police investigations were arrested in a joint operation mounted by the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF and the police over the weekend.

Obura notes that despite the arrest of some of the suspects, they have not recovered any firearm. He, however, says the suspects are cooperating with the investigators and soon will recover the firearms.

Statistics at the Albertine region police headquarters indicate that five robberies were recorded in Kagadi and Kakumiro last month alone. In all cases, the thugs would invade villages and put mobile money agents at gunpoint before ordering them to surrender all the money in their possession.

On March 19, 2021, armed thugs attacked a Centenary bank agent in Kakumiro district and robbed an unspecified amount of money.  The robbery took place at around 9 pm in Kisiita West Cell, Central ward in Kisiita Town Council Kakumiro district.

The robbers approached Ruth Atuhaire pretending to be clients and placed her at gunpoint. They hit Atuhaire with the gun on the forehead when she rejected their demands for money. They later made off with an unspecified amount of money and fired in the air as they fled from the scene.

On March 23, 2021, armed thugs raided Bukwara Trading Centre and robbed up to 32 million Shillings from two people. Two-armed men pretending to be clients approached Apollo Muhumuza and placed him at gunpoint. They ordered him to surrender all the money in his possession.

Fearing for his dear life, Muhumuza pulled out Shillings 32million and handed it over to the attackers. The same thugs raided the home of Benezaya Mwesineza where they robbed a Computer and a mobile phone. They fired several bullets as they fled.
