Kasese, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, Rev. Nason Baluku has urged the clergy and the faithful in the diocese to value time during functions.
He expressed concern that marriage ceremonies have been integrated with “irrelevant” practices such as modern dances, and posh displays that consume time.
Bishop Baluku further noted that burial ceremonies have also been integrated with practices not centered in culture. He said that unnecessary speeches tend to take and waste time
Bishop Baluku ordered the church clergy in the diocese to ensure that all functions they led did not go beyond 5:00 PM.
He said the resolution was pushed during a synod meeting held last month with an interest in ensuring that people do not waste time in functions.
He said the church has the mandate to ensure that believers invest time in other productive activities.
While the Bishop said he was not discouraging people from functions, he wanted them to value time and utilize it effectively.
Apophious Biira, welcomes the resolution urging that restricting functions on time, could also save society of immoral acts that often happen when functions are pushed into night hours.
