Beijing, China | Xinhua | China’s former Manchester United player Dong Fangzhou has noted that it is strong inner motivation that has made Cristiano Ronaldo different from other players.
Dong posted an excerpt from a book about inner motivation on social media on Saturday and related it to Ronaldo’s successful career.
“Strong inner motivation, coupled with no fear of challenge and pursuit for more success, is what has made Cristiano Ronaldo different from us,” he wrote.
The 36-year-old former striker, who now serves as a youth coach, encouraged youngsters to learn self-discipline.
“Children must become the followers of truth and principles. Their motivation comes from inner self-control. That is to say, they have to learn self-discipline,” he said.
Dong signed for Manchester United in January 2004 and returned to China four years later. He made only one Premier League appearance, in 2007, when he played up front in a 0-0 draw at Chelsea.
