Dar es Salaam, Tanzania | Xinhua | The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) on Friday announced the resumption of full cross-border passenger train services between Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and New Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia.

A statement issued by the TAZARA headquarters in Tanzania’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam said passenger train services between the two destinations will resume on Oct. 18.

“Intending travelers are encouraged to make reservations for their tickets in advance,” said the statement signed by TAZARA head of public relations, Conrad K Simuchile.

Passenger train services between the two destinations were temporarily suspended due to a goods train accident that occurred at the Msanza-Kapwila area in Nakonde district in Zambia on Sept. 22, 2022, said the statement.

TAZARA was constructed as a turnkey project between 1970 and 1975 through an interest-free loan from China, with commercial operations starting in July 1976, covering 1,860 kilometers from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to New Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia.
