Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda’s Third Deputy Prime Minister, Rukia Nakadama, has provided insights into the reasoning behind the substantial size of the country’s delegation to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Nakadama emphasized that this decision was driven by the agenda of the session and the necessity to ensure effective representation and influence over final policy outcomes.
In a statement delivered during a plenary session, Nakadama dispelled the notion of an excessively large delegation, noting that only 31 officials were sponsored by government ministries, departments, and agencies. This clarification countered media reports of over 70 delegates.
Nakadama underscored the significance of Uganda’s active participation in the UN General Assembly, where multilateral discussions on international issues take centre stage. She highlighted the platform it offers for dialogue and bilateral meetings, making it crucial for the nation’s interests.
