Three arrested for beheading Kibaale man

Kibaale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kibaale police are holding three suspects in connection to the brutal murder of a 68-year-old man. The suspects are Anatole Mugisa, Denis Tumwebaze and Joyce Kemirembe.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network on Thursday that the suspects are believed to have had a hand in the murder of Joseph Mayengo, a resident of Nsonga village in Matale parish in Matale sub county Kibaale district.

According to Hakiza, the deceased disappeared from his home on April 10, 2021, after selling his house at Shillings 10 million. This prompted his relatives to notify police that commenced investigations into the matter.

He says police picked up Tumwebaze and Anatoli, who bought the deceased’s house. They later arrested Kemirembe.

During interrogations at Kibaale central police station, Anatole confessed to having participated in the murder and led investigators to the place where they beheaded the deceased.

A team of investigators from Kibaale CPS found Mayengo’s torso buried in a swamp in Nsonga village.  They retrieved the body on Wednesday and took it to Kibaale health center IV for postmortem before handing it over to his relatives for burial.

According to Hakiza, the suspects will appear before court for murder once police investigations are complete.
