Three children injured in ordnance explosion

Unexploded ordnance

Agago, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Three children in Agago district are nursing injuries they sustained in an explosion from an ordnance they were playing with. The incident happened on Tuesday at around 2pm in Admii village, Alwee parish, Agengo sub county.

The sub county LC III chairperson, Simon Oromakecha identifies the minors as Charles Samuel Okidi, Sam Onyango and John Oloya, all below 12-years of age. He says that the three children are receiving treatment at Dr. Ambrosali Hospital Kalongo, Kalongo town council.

He explains that the minors picked unexploded ordnance from the nearby bush at Ywewii trading centre in Alwee parish and hid it for two days from their parents. He says that Okidi lost two fingers while Onyango and Oloya sustained injuries on their tummies.

Oromakecha says that two other unexploded ordnances are still stuck in the ground posing a threat to the residents. Susan Akany, the Agago Resident District Commissioner says it is unfortunate that the minors were injured by the ordinance.

She says that a team of experts will visit the place to carry out further investigations to establish what could have happened. Northern Uganda has several unexploded ordnances left behind following years of insurgency in the region.
