Kakumiro, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | An attempt by thugs to raid Kyerimira village in Katikara sub-county, Kakumiro district, and steal 14 bitumen drums from a Chinese stone quarry, has been thwarted by the police.
Police have apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Rashid Aganyira and also impounded the vehicle used in the attempted theft.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that the hunt for the other suspects is ongoing, noting that the arrested suspect is cooperating with the detectives. The stolen bitumen drums have been recovered by the police and returned to their rightful owners.
The attemptedd theft occurred on Wednesday night around 11 p.m. when the criminals targeted the site, making away with the drums.
Ben Takan, the Chief Security Officer for Defense for Hire Security Company Limited, which was hired to guard the quarry, received information about the raid and promptly alerted the police. The police quickly responded and arrived at the scene, finding the thugs loading the stolen drums onto a canter truck, registration number UBB 716F.

Upon realizing they had been surrounded, the criminals fled into a nearby sugarcane plantation, abandoning both the vehicle and the stolen goods.
