Top URA Commissioner resigns

Dicksons Kateshumbwa was last year elected to head the World Customs Organisation. He today resigned from URA

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | One of Uganda Revenue Authority’s high profile Commissioners, Dicksons Kateshumbwa, has resigned.

“Today after more than 14 years of service in the authority I have decided to end my tour of duty ahead of my contractual period with immediate effect,” he said in a letter copied to all staff that The Independent has seen.

He has been Commissioner for Domestic taxes, having early this year been moved from the powerful post of Commissioner of Customs. He is Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council.

Kateshumbwa is resigning two months after President Yoweri Museveni in March appointed John Musinguzi Rujoki as new Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General to replace Doris Akol, who had led the tax collectors for five years.

Musinguzi has been presidential advisor on ICT and investment and board chairman of the National Information Technology Authority (NITA).

Reports indicate that this is one of several changes Musinguzi has made as he takes over the helm of the tax body URA.

Leading financial online site CEO EAST AFRICA says it has confirmed that two Commissioners, one Assistant Commissioner and a top tax auditor have been forced to resign.

  1. They failed to heed the public out cry of having internal truck drivers.

It is now our time to suffer as the government enjoys billions in funding.

  2. PS Finance opinion is good in the Economic sense, however, given ALL the Fund members’ outcry, it is time to also assess the savers( quite a huge number) on the votes in the coming election.
I foresee a vote against NRM where members expectations are not met.
