Kampala,Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | The High Court in Kampala Monday heard that several suspects confessed that Austrian based cardiologist Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi was supporting rebel activities of the Allied Democratic Force, under the leadership of captured Jamil Mukulu.
This during the hearing of the treason case against 19 people including Dr. Kiyingi’s relative Aisha Nakasibante before Justice Wilson Masalu Musene.
Prosecution’s sixth witness who is a police officer attached to the Crime Intelligence Department, Jacob Edward Kiyengo told court that three of the suspects in this case who were arrested from Mbale District, confessed to having been recruited in the ADF with the aid of Dr. Kiyingi and Jamil Mukulu.
Matanda Issa, Wadwali Safiyi and Donchu Musa are the said suspects.
Only Dr. Kiyingi is not in prison but Jamil Mukulu is on remand at Luzira prison awaiting trial before the International Crimes Division Court.
The 19 suspects are facing two counts of treason and concealment of treason.
They are alleged to have contrived a plot to over throw the government of Uganda by use of firearms, between 2013 and 2015 in Uganda, Dubai, Kenya and Tanzania.
Prosecution further alleges that the accused expressed this plot through utterances, recruitment, and training of rebels, acquiring satellite mobile phones for communication, then motorcycles, vehicles for transport, and rented houses to act as safe houses to accomplish their mission.
