Nakapiripirit, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Nakapiripirit district have arrested two people for selling the iron sheets being distributed by the Office of the Prime Minister to Karamojong reformed warriors.
The suspects have been identified as Paskari Lochoro, a seller and Faizal Kabusera, a buyer were arrested on Friday at Nakapiripirit – Mbale taxi stage in Nakapiripirit Town Council.
The iron sheets are part of the items the government is donating to the reformed warriors who voluntarily handed over illegal firearms in their possession to the security forces.
Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson said that Lochoro a reformed warrior, decided to sell eleven iron sheets out of the 26 he received from OPM to Kabusera at a cost of 27,000 shillings each.
Longole confirmed that both the seller and buyer were arrested after a tip off from the community members who were closely following the discussion from the two over the deal.
Longole noted that the seller is one of the reformed warriors who benefited from the government iron sheets which have just been distributed.
He added that the two suspects are now in the police custody pending further inquiries.
Longole warned the reformed warriors against selling government properties meant for poverty alleviation.
Currently the Office of the Prime Minister is distributing the first consignment of iron sheets to the Karamojong reformed warriors across the sub region.
The iron sheets are part of the appreciation token to reformed warriors who voluntarily handed over their guns to the government and embraced peace.
