Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Kiira region is investigating circumstances under which two men were last night killed and dumped at different points within Wanyama Cell, in Northern division of Jinja city.
The bodies were spotted by residents who were heading for work on Friday morning.
Both bodies were covered with wounds, raising suspicion that they were attacked by machete wielding men.
One of the deceased is 47-year-old Bilenge Awoto. The identity of the other one are not yet established.
The bodies have both been taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
Elinah Namukubembe, a resident within the area says that the two might have been killed from elsewhere and dumped in their area as a coverup.
“My house is less than 10 meters away from where one body is but, I did not hear any form of scuffle throughout the night,” she said. “Therefore, I think that they might have been killed from another location and only dumped here, as a way of destroying evidence.”
Kiira region’s police spokesperson, James Mubi confirms the incident, adding that the motive of the killers is not yet known and detectives have been already deployed to intensify the hunt for the suspects.
Mubi further stresses that, officers in charge of different police stations throughout Kiira region, have been directed to intensify both day and night patrols aimed at busting rising criminal gangs in this festive season.
